I saw a comment the other day I had to respond to because someone had commented that e-publishing and indie-press publishing were done by people who didn't take enough pride in their work to wait, tough it out and find a traditional publisher. Personally, I think this is a short-sighted way of viewing the subject. Many folks go the e-pub/indie-pub route specifically BECAUSE they are so proud of their work and want it shared and 8/10 times, I'd say they didn't jump the gun. There are great books published by indie routes that otherwise wouldn't be available. Not because they weren't "good enough," but because the traditional houses didn't believe there was enough money to pay for their publication. Does that mean they should languish on the author's computer? Not in my never to be humble opinion. LOL Is there lesser quality material put out because of this publishing craze? Sure. There was lesser quality stuff put out when Gutenberg was around too. It's the same process. If you had the money to pay for the presentation, you could always use a vanity press then as now (I wouldn't recommend it) - or a professional clerk. LOL Just don't forget, the plays of the bard were once considered somewhat trashy, mongrel entertainment and now they're thought of as so highbrow, students complain about having to read them! They weren't even published until after Shakespeare's death. They weren't worthwhile.
